Rottweillers are on the prohibited breed list with every insurance company I have ever run into.

If you tell the insurance company you have them, they will decline to write your policy. If you do NOT tell the insurance company you have them, and they bite someone, the claim will likely be denied, and your policy cancelled, for material misrepresentation.

If an insurance inspector comes out, either to review your house, or to look at a claim issue, and sees the dogs, they will notify the underwriter, who will cancel your policy.

Foremost Insurance (www.foremost.com) will write a homeowners policy (more limited coverages, at a higher premium) for you, IF you agree to accept a dog bite liability exclusion.

So that's the scoop. I'll let you make your own choices.

most ins companies will not write certain dogs because of the high liability. there are companies that will do a dog exclusion on the policy. this basically means they will write your home policy, but there is no coverage at all for the dog liability. you have to tell your insurance company as if you do not, this is reason for them to cancel your policy.

I've worked for two insurance companies and neither of them have a list of prohibited pets but many do.

It may don't keep you from getting coverage. If they ask you directly and you say no, they find later that you do, that could be considered misrepresentation and grounds for non renewal. If they are really nasty, they may try to say its fraud, not pay and non renew you.

Once your cancelled for something like this it is very hard to get cvg elsewhere.

I used to work for about 15 insurance companies and every single one of them except for 2 will allow Rotts. Those companies are Foremost and State Farm. There is the prohibited dog list for most companies. I wish you luck in finding good home insurance!

ME
If they have ever asked you about pets, you need to disclose this information. If you dont and then your dog bites someone, the insurance company might not pay for the claim. They have a right to know about any additional liability exposures.

You probably should tell them just so you don't get in worse trouble later. They might allow it.
