Alicia | What in the world is going on? |
I have insurance through Fidelis Care New York. I have NEVER had any problems with them, ever.
Today, however, I got this strange letter in the mail from them. Basically, it is saying that they received and reviewed a request from ME, for an admission to Albany Medical Center Hospital. It also says that "based on the clinical information received, a determination has been made to APPROVE 8 days".
This letter is dated Sept. 8 this year, and the admission date is Sept. 4.
Here's the problem. I have not been in a hospital for my own needs in nearly 6 YEARS. The most recent thing I've even used my insurance card for was dental work yesterday and today. I don't live anywhere NEAR Albany, let alone have I requested admission to this hospital.
I called Fidelis, and the woman I spoke with is looking into it for me, and I should hear back from them within the next week.
What could be going on?? As you can imagine, I'm completely baffled here. I have no idea what is going on.
Any ideas? Thanks... Additional Details I should also add that the woman I spoke with said that it DOES show up in their records that I've been admitted....and I am most certainly not in the hospital. o.o |

you need to call the admissions dept at the hospital and tell them someone is fraudulently using your insurance they will investigate |

either it was a mishap putting in information or someone is using your name and insurance without you knowing it. I would call the hospital that "you" were admitted to and ask them if there is actual someone "you" there and if so there is something wrong the insurance information. if your insurance is looking into it they definitely will because it is causing them money. Most likely you will be able to have this fixed. myself I would also check my credit records too because if it is done fraudulently they might have other information as well. keep after the insurance company too. if you dont hear back from her by monday I would call again. keep a list of who you talk to and their numbers as well so that way you have an easy reference. good luck |

The odds are, someone at the hospital mis-entered a number from someone else's policy. Of course to your insurance company, it will look valid and like you were admitted since they have your number (insurance companies don't actually check to see if you have been admitted, they just check the diagnosis sheets and info from the admissions chart).

Your identity can be stolen in many different ways, and while most identity theft occurs from someone close to you, it's certainly not impossible that it could be done professionally and your information sold by insiders(possibly at the ins. co., etc.) for use by others. Certainly let your insurance provider and the health care provider know that this is not you and there is fraud involved. I'm sure you've already done this. It may be necessary to file a police report to validate this. |

Looks like identity theft! Call that hospital, ask if you're there. Then I'd call the hospital administrator and local police. |
