Hi. I have learned recently that my company will be going out of business and I will be let go in about 2 months. I need to find a company that will pay supplementary unemploymnet insurance (on top of what the state will give me) to cover my expenses. This should be an insurance benefit that doesn't require a medical reason for unemployment. I already have that through aflac. Any help is appreciated. I live in NJ, if that helps answer the question.

@byron m, I was going to use the time to go back to school and pick up some new skills. It would take about a year to finish. But I wouldn't have any fewer bills while I was in school. I needed something to carry me after state benefits ran out. However, if this policy is something no agency carries, I will have to think of something else. |

There is no supplement to your unemployment. If you don't think that you can live on what the State will pay you, or you don't think it will last long enough, get started now to find work elsewhere. |

I've never heard of "supplemental unemployment insurance" as a coverage offered to carriers. And, actually, if there was such a thing - the employer would have to buy it, and they'd have to WARRANT that there aren't any layoffs upcoming - which means if the layoffs happen, there isn't any coverage.
Sorry, this is what your savings account is for!! Start sending out your resume NOW - two months is plenty of time to find a new job! |

As you know you will likely qualify for an unemployment benefit, i.e. wages, for a specified period of time. Never heard of unemployment insurance, except as it is used to define what the employer pays if 3 or more full time persons are employed. |

Personally i never accept unemployment as the answer to my income needs and would be looking for a job at this point in time rather than looking to increase your expenditures. That money would be better saved now than spent in the hopes you can have anything to claim.
Is there a reason you're looking for long term unemployment?
My suggestion: Get out and look for a job, employeers will find you more eligeble/responsible and hirrable if you let them know why you are looking. |

you, yourself can't take out unemployment insurance, only a company can do that. instead of living off the state, why not start looking for a job now, 2 months is plenty of time to find something different!! |
