You may want to try getting a quote online. I am paying less than ½ of what I was before.

Each person has unique needs. I would recommend finding a good independant agent that can go to more than one company (unlike Allstate, Statefarm & Nationwide agents that can only quote 1 company).
Life insurance should also be reviewed by an independant agent. There are many options and time periods to consider as well as convertability. There is also return of premium. You need to look at the options and make a decision. If it is a longer time horizon I would recommend an A+ rated larger carrier.
Disability has many options and limitations. Again, you need to tell your agent what your goals are and what level of protection you want and they will find the best option for you. |

The best thing you can do is find a local insurance agency. Most agents can write all of those policies for you, but they may or may not all be through the same company. The important thing is to make sure that you have the right amount of coverage. |

Most homeowner, auto and umbrella policies use standard forms approved by the Insurance Services Office, so most policies will read pretty much the same.
The financial stability of the insurer should be your determining factor. Search AM Best and choose a carrier that's rated A or higher.
If you buy homeowners, auto and the umbrella policy from the same company you will probably get a good discount.
As far as term life is concerned, shop by price. Again make sure to check the insurer's ratings and don't use a company not licensed to sell in NY
Disability coverage is a different animal. You will have to work with a good agent that can get you quotes from several companies. Unlike the other types of policies, disability coverage will vary from company to company and from product to product. You have to choose one that fits your needs as far as the waiting period, the definition of total disability and then look at the cost, which can be substantial. |

There's no "one size fits all" best for everyone. You'll have to sit down with a local, independent agent, get some quotes, and compare prices and coverages. |
