Depends on what coverage you have(liability, collision, uninsured motorists, property, etc). No matter which company you use, you'd be best if on the same policy as your parents, especially if they have their home owners on the same policy. 16 yr. olds are expensive with any agency. Just keep up your grades and drive responsibly and that will help. |

None are cheap, but the best way to do this is to buy a vehicle for you that you pay cash for - no loans. Then, you get liability coverage with you (16 year old) as the primary driver on that car. It will be a lot cheaper than adding you as a driver to the family policy, and you will still be covered while driving a family car, too. |

I'm not quite sure how cheap state farm is, and I don't know where it is available, but I know that they have this program that if your teenager doesn't have any tickets or accidents for like two years after getting the insurance they will get $1000. They also offer discounts for good grades. |

sorry to say this, but a new driver, will be expensive.
Sinse the new young driver is in experenced, and will highly be candadtes for collisions, rates will be high, till around 20 years of age. |

We always got good rates through Farmer`s insurance and they give good student discounts as well (for a B average or better). Perfect motivation for a high school student to work a bit harder at his/her grades! |

Couple things to think about:
Consider opening up her own policy -- not on your policy -- for negligence and liability risks. You serve no purpose being the deep pockets on her policy.
Rates tend to be very high for teenagers, also it can depend on the car and location. These factors require you to do some shopping around...ask the insurers what cars are safeest cheapest rates etc.

I would skip all of the online sites since they really charge more than the traditional company. Always try who your Mom insures with right now. Ask for a multiple policy discount if you have home or renter insurance with them too. Tell the agent you are a full time student with very good grades. If you are a girl always remind them of that since you will get a lower rate usually. The company I use is American Family Insurance. Just call an agent in the phone book and ask for a quote. They have to write insurance to make any money so you will be treated nicely. Best of luck to you!! Be sure and tell the Agent that you will never drink and drive. |
