In simplest terms, insurance is when you pay a company a pre-determined fee (your premium) in exchange for them assuming part of your risk. Example: I pay $96 a month to a car insurance company. In exchange, they promise me that if I get in a car accident, they'll pay a portion of the repairs. |

Life is about risk. Every time you cross a street you are risking. Looking left and right you cautiously step off the curb and gingerly scamper to the other side. You look left and right to diminish the risk of getting run over, but did you look down for open man hole covers or look up for a crashing plane? Okay so you don't think airplanes fall from the sky every day. Good for you. But for those risks that do bother you, there is insurance. There is insurance available for anything and everything. Me, I tend to think of insurance as a bet you are hoping not to collect. I put my money down betting I will safely cross the street. If I do make it across in one piece I am content knowing I am safe. If however I fall down a manhole half way across I am equally content knowing my insurance bet will help defray the costs of getting my broken leg fixed.
I am stopping here because I am sure some insurance guy will leap in and tell you all about Life Insurance, Health Insurance, etc, etc, etc. |

that's a very broad type of question....basically insurance is financial protection in case something bad happens....ie, you have home insurance in case you are robbed, or your house catches on fire, etc. you can also get life insurance in case you die of something other than old age, or you can get car insurance in case your car is stolen or you get in an accident....i suggest searching on google and that will probably answer more of your questions. |

insurance protects you if something were to go wrong.
You pay a fee to a insurance company, if anything goes wrong they will pay the costs which you would otherwise not afford. They make their money from the fact that most things do not go wrong, and they keep our money afterwards.
House insurance, car insurance, travel insurance.
The more you pay the more money you get when something goes wrong, and the more you pay the more 'actions' are covered. |

Hi-
Insurance is the transfer of risk from you to the insurance company. You pay to transfer this risk. This payment is the premium.
As far as the types of insurance, there are many.... from a financial standpoint there is Life & Health and Property & Casualty. In addition, there is private mortgage insurance, there is insurance when you play blackjack, credit card companies offer insurance in case you cannot make payments, those extended warranties at retail stores...... the list can go on and on. I recommend going to your state's insurance website. It will have a lot of infor about the general Life/Health and Property/Casualty.
Hope this helps |
