I would guess that this policy would provide coverage for any legal action, defense costs, and settlements paid if he were to get one of his groupies pregnant. However, i would consider it very unlikely that this policy would cover 18 years of child support because that dollar amount could get pretty large... he is only paying $10K. Addionally, insurance policies aren't set up to pay over an extended time period.
I think the purpose of this would be to take care of all the various claims of D.L.R. getting someone pregnant. If in fact he did, the policy would pay, if not, they would pay. |

RS: Your reputation certainly isn't one that would attract a woman with brains and self-respect who took herself seriously - which is the kind of woman you say you want. For instance, weren't you the first rock and roll star to take out paternity insurance? Why?
DLR: We get all kinds of letters, like, "I'm pregnant with your kid" - which is just physically impossible. What happened was that, about four or five years ago, a guy in the band had a suit from a woman claiming her kid was his. All the tests proved conclusively that that never was his kid. So I took out insurance in order to make someone think six times before she does anything. |

I'm assuming that it would be similar to health insurance or when a surgeon insures their hands. It's to make sure that there is money set aside to pay as child support to any women he got pregnant. |

Well, that's a "nickname". It isn't standardized. A big rock star went to Lloyds of London and said, ok, how much would you charge me each year, for $250,000 of coverage just in case I knocked up some broad. And they said, ok, how about $100,000. And he said sure.

What is paternity insurance? That's one damn good question.. I also just read that David Lee Roth article, and I also was left thinking, "wtf?".
So after googling it, and still ending up confused I'm going to settle with the idea that Paternity insurance covers a child that is conceived, by any woman D.L.R. was owning; given he had... 1000's.
The insurance would most likely cover any royalties, costs, etc. that the child would incur.
- This is off of the top of my head, but let's face it: I'm damn sure I'm not far from the target. |
