What is a good, trustworthy life insurance company?

Generally speaking, trustworthy and anything related to the finance industry is extremely hard to come by.

Find one you can trust. There are some that are WANTING to pay out more death claims, not because of loosing money (lets face it, insurance is a cash cow), but because it is a benefit for those that survive.

It's more important to find an AGENT or BROKER you can trust. Especially one that is transparent to how it all works.

----

Transparent in this case meaning questions asked are answered fully to your satisfaction without giving you lip service back.

----

Agree with below regarding grade of the company. They must be A or better, otherwise you start getting some less desirable companies. Also, actually talk with someone face to face, getting quotes on line is fine but do NOT apply for anything unless you can actually touch your agent. You can usually get better deals that way.

Two methods:

1. Contact the state commissioner of insurance. Ask for a list of the companies that have been in business for over one hundred years (or any other long period).

2. Check the listings of A.M. Best and Company. Any outfit listed there with a rating of A+ will work.

HOWEVER,

if you are referring to an insurance agent (who owns his own brokerage), one way that I really like to to go to the garage. Pick up the oldest telephone book you have stored there. In my garage, I only go back a few years...unfortunately.

Open the oldest phone book. Look under Insurance. Find your last name, or the next company after the point where your last name would be listed. (This prevents a hundred people calling the first company only, and not letting the others have a shot at your business.) Start calling the companies. Those that are out of business are not trustworthy. Keep going until you find one.

Tip: If you see a listing for CLUs, call them.
That designation is very difficult to obtain.
Further, they have a code of ethics superior to most.

Any A rated insurance company is honest, and capable of paying your claim.

What's MORE important, is getting a local agent, so you can match up what product best suits your needs at the most competitive price.

I have a great agent that puts the clients needs first. I am sure if you contact them they will find you a great life insurance company. They specialize in life and health insurance. They only deal with A rated companies I have been told that is very important. You can find them at http://www.lvhealthins.com

I've never heard trustworthy and insurance company used in the same sentence before. Yeah, I know it's cynical. Insurance companies are in the business of selling policies, not paying claims. Don't get me started here.
