Not sure what state you are in, however, you can get some great insurance plans relatively inexpensive. Discount Plans are good if you have no money to pay, but then you will have more out of pocket when you have to file a claim.

I have some resources for both if you are interested.

a discount plan basically just offers a discount on the services i.e. the actual cost may be $100.00 but with your discount you pay just $90.00, but an ins plan is going to pay for a certain percentage of the cost. i.e. my plan covers 100% of anything preventative such as cleanings and xrays after I pay a predetermined copay like $25.00. But for anything other than preventative they cover only 80%. So, say my filling is the same $100.00 as before, my ins will pay 80% of that ($80) and I pay the remaining $20. it's really up to you whether or not you want to pay the extra out of pocket so that the ins will cover more of the actual cost of seeing the dentist. Hope that helps!

It depends on the situation. There is a very helpful link that does a comparison located at http://www.simplydentalplans.com/plansvsinsurance.html

I hope this helps

Depends on whether you're an employer or an employee. If you're an employer the discount plan would most likely be cheaper for you because you wouldn't need to contribute as much money to the plan on behalf of your employees. On the flipside of that, if you're an employee you want an insurance plan because most likely the discounts will not be large enough to offset your dental care costs.

Most dental plans are a complete waste of money. The traditional plans are so expensive you might as well just pay the dentist yourself. I see many plans costing 100-150 per month for a family.
