Cremation. It costs somewhere between $800-$1100.

most cremations are less costly, burial is the higher cost by far. |

Cremation alone, in an alternative (read: cardboard) container, is available for as little as $470 in my area (Seattle).
This kind of program, with a home memorial service, is the cheapest you can go that's legal.
Burial, with funeral and casket is *reasonable* at $10,000!
Save the $$$ for the peeps who are living, and celebrate you loved one sensibly. Cremation, a big party/remembrance with potluck, and a simple scatter or planting (like under a new tree, in a beloved rose garden, etc) is more to my taste, and definitely in line with my priorities. |

Cremation is cheaper. My father paid ahead thru the Neptune Society. Paid for the urn too. When he passed, we picked up his ashes, had a real nice party for him and about 150 of his friends at his house. Then after a few months, in hs pre-arranged favorite spot, scattered his ashes in his favorite place with family and a few friends. He always said, spend the money on the living, not on the dead! God, how i miss him! |

well do you plan on having a memorial service at a funeral place after the cemation? Or are you just having the person cremated and then having a private gathering at home? Just getting cremation done is cheaper. but if you add on the memorial service then you add on the $$. |

You question is sort of misleading.
A funeral is optional whether you are cremated or not. Many people who are cremated have a funeral first. They are just cremated after the funeral instead of buried.
I think the question you are asking is: what is cheaper a direct cremation or a direct burial?
The direct cremation is cheaper. |

I believe a cremation is cheaper, you don't have to buy a coffin or have a plot or pay somebody to dig the hole to put you in. I am definetly being cremated and it has nothing to do with dollars. I just don't want to be put in the ground in any way shape or form. My family willl scatter my ashes, or whats left, because I am also an organ donor, at the beach here in NC. I want them to celebrate my life and have a great big party with my friends and remember how much I enriched their lives and vice versa |

Cremation is funeral. Do you mean to ask burial or cremation? Depends on which part of the world you wish to have final rights performed. |
