What is everyone's view on what is going on with Education and Health Insurance in this Country? *****?
***** Does everyone believe that all persons are entitled to a free Higher (college) Education and that everyone should have Health Insurance (even if we have to pay for it)?

If some needs a cat scan or brace or medical device or particular procedure and the Health Insurance Company denies that person payment for that device, should the person (or his family, if the person has died) be allowed to sue the insurance company? These are serious questions and your answers toward finding a solution are needed.

Our public education system stinks. You want the government to take over HIGHER education? Zug, we'll have doctors who are illiterate.

No, I don't believe that all persons are "entitled" to anything. The whole entitlement attitude is EXACTLY what's wrong with our public education system.

There aren't enough working Americans to PAY for Health Insurance for the world. That's just the way it is. And it's not fair to effectively enslave them, the working Americans, I mean, to make the attempt.

Health insurance doesn't deny medical care, and they don't deny devices, or procedures. They only deny payment. If it's a life threatening issue, it's up to your friends, family, and church to find a way to make it work.

People are ALREADY allowed to sue insurance companies. That's why HMO's have changed from the way they were originally intended to work, so that they're almost unrecognizable. That's why RATES have jumped through the roof.

Keep in mind, when you make a business - including an insurance company - pay for SOMETHING, well, think about where they get the MONEY for it. FROM THE CUSTOMER.

There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. SOMEONE pays. Or the lunch stops. Period.

The root cause of the issues facing healthcare and education are somewhat outlined in your question to the board today. The issue is american's culture.

For instance, you indicate if my insurance won't cover a cat scan or brace I should be allowed to sue the insurance company. The clear result of that action will be counterproductive as this will cause the rates to rise and more people will have more difficulty finding access to coverage. If the device or procedure is excluded from coverage the insurance company should not be held liable. They merely pay the promises they outline in their coverage. If the device or procedure is included and medical necessary the issue should be bought up with a local regulatory agency to intervene and find a corrective action. The agency can then track/trend the carriers denials to make sure that this does not become common practice. Paying penalties each time merely cost the consumers more.

Education has been on my radar as a crisis just like healthcare as they have been receiving year over year rate hikes consistent with healthcare. Unlike healthcare's rise in pharmacy & medical procedures I find a hard time justifying the education providers premiums.

For instance, computers are getting cheaper , technology advances such as distance learning are available and paper is not inflating like oil. So the big question is where is all the double digit percentage raises in education expenses going?

Regardless, bringing in uncle sam to manage the unmanageable is frankly not a good thought process. Any program they manage to put to debate is counterproductive and results in more money spent. This once again will trickle down to the tax payers.

Back to your question....

1. Do I feel it is right that someone dies because they don't have access to healthcare?

- Of course not, neither do I feel it is right for a young male or female to die in a car accident for speeding. I do however realize that the person had a choice to be insured or uninsured at one time just as the person has a choice of speeding. I also don't feel that the gov't role is to bail out every american that made wrong choices in life. If the person has a "need" for a medical procedure they should get the procedure done and find a way to pay for it. If no coverage exists that was due to poor planning and don't feel my tax dollars should be used.

The culture of america is blame an insurance carrier because they were denied coverage because they are uninsurable. The culture is not, let me obtain coverage now as a wealth preservation tool just in case I get unexpectedly sick. Wouldn't anyone bet on last week's football games in Vegas knowing that you are going to get paid?

education is best handled locally. the federal government should get out of education almost entirely or entirely.

health care - the whole debate is really about quality of care. no one can deny someone necessary treatment now. There's no 'right' for someone to get the same level of care for free that others have worked hard to afford.

Oddly, though you allude to it, no one seems upset that Hillary, I think Romney and I think Edwards all basically have plans that require people to buy health insurance. That's not a plan, that's a mandate.

Some people are uninsured by choice (young, healthy and would rather have mad money than insurance). Forcing them to buy insurance is authoritarian. Why force people to do something?

It's fucked. Totally out of control. My friend was in hospital for 13 hours on a stretcher in a hallway and it cost him $11k.

Not enough people are failing. When you arbitrarily pass uneducated children in order to keep a broken system moving, you lose any chance of bettering our world. Kids protesting the tests you need to pass to graduate, gimme a break. They need to wake up and realize life isn't some 'feel good' event. You need to learn or stay back a grade. If you can't ever learn, then guess what? Pick up a broom and start sweeping. The world needs ditch diggers too.

Free medicine isn't the answer, but putting the CEOs of the HMOs in jail sounds pretty nice. Every year the co-pays go up and the coverage goes down. There are no alternatives for the working American. Laws should be put in place for Insurance and Oil companies. Record profits 8 quarters in a row? Sounds like price gouging to me.
