Short term health insurance plans are the least expensive major medical plans available. They have drawbacks like no prescription coverage and no copays for doctor visits. But you get much lower premiums.
The only thing temporary insurance doesn't cover is pre-existing conditions and preventive care. Any new illness or injury will be covered. That is generally all you will need.
As for the travel, it depends if it is domestically or internationally. There are good international plans that you can get for as little as 5 days. Domestic plans generally require a minimum coverage period of 1 month.
Everyone's situation is different and I agree that you should talk with someone locally about your situation. There are probably a lot of options available to you. Good luck. |

Try looking at comparison sites that will let you get free quotes from several companies at once. That way, you can be pretty sure you're getting the best coverage for your buck. You will get what you pay for. Cheaper policies will have skimpier coverage and/or higher deductibles. If you want really good coverage, you will have to pay more. The best option is to contact a local agent who has access to different policies/companies and can help you figure out the best coverage for your personal situation. |

Blue cross / blue shield works well for us - all over the country.
We are also on a budget so we got the coverage with the 3,500 /pp deductible or 9,000 / year family.
This works well, since we are relatively healthy.
A lower deductible would cost us about 4,000 more year, and we still have to pay 250 deductibles and 30 dollar copays.
