What is the best maternity insurance? ?
my husband and i are ttc and i am trying to find some maternity insurance for when i get pregnant. he cant apply for insurance through his work for another 5 months. so in the even that i do get pregnant, i would need insurance right away. we make too much to qualify for medicaid or any government funded insurance.
ive looked at a few different companies but im wondering which is the best. monthy price isnt an issue, quality is whats important. thanks!

Hey,
I'm looking for the same! I found that United Healthcare has maternity plan with individual plans. There is no waiting period but when you buy the plan you can't be pregnant. They cover 80%.
Give them a call (they will send you a package) or go online:

I had Anthem and it was wonderful! It pays for all pregnancy appts. And pays a lot on labor and delivery.

Have the medical insurance in place before you even try otherwise you'll end up paying for everything.

Depends on where you live as to the answer.

Go talk to a local agent. Although an agent here says he's got a policy with maternity benefits and no wait, I've never seen one in real life, myself. Most of them, it runs you $300 or so a month for just the maternity coverage, and you have to wait at least a year to get pregnant for it to cover.

Likely, you're best off just waiting to get added to your husband's policy through work.

If monthly price isn't an issue, then the $600 a month for your low deductible with maternity benifits plan (assuming you're 30 or under, and in perfect health) won't shock you - because that's how much it runs, about, in MY experience.

There's no "one size fits all best". With health insurance, you need an A rated carrier, with LOCAL PROVIDERS. As none of us know where you live, a local agent is going to be best to answer your questions.

If you are more worried about quality, you are better off working backwards. Identify which hospital(s) you plan on delivering at. Then call the administrative office and find out which insurance plans they accept. Then, go to each insurance company's web site and look for individual insurance offerings, get the brochure and sit down and compare the plans. You should be able to narrow it down to two or three plans. Call the plans and get quotes, check the web for customer opinions, and talk to friends.

Be prepared to pay a lot for the insurance. Non-group insurance (outside of your employer or other large group) can be extremely expensive and of course, the higher the level of coverage, the higher the premiums. The average family plan in the individual market is around $5,000 a year. One thing you might think about is just getting yourself coverage, which would lower the premium to under $2,000 (estimate), since all you seem to be worried about is maternity coverage, which your husband will most likely not need ;)

One last thing - when comparing coverage, pay attention to the definition of pre-existing conditions. You don't want to get into a plan where pregnancy within so many months from your coverage date is not covered and there is a chance you might get pregnant prior to that time.

just wait till the insurance is in place.
