Carmen G | What is the cheapest self employed health insurance plan? |
|

One thing that many self employed people do not realize is that they can find a much cheaper individual health insurance plan then they can a group health insurance plan.
Individual plans are much cheaper than group because companies will only accept people onto the plan who are relatively healthy where with group everyone is approved.
Of course, when shopping for the cheapest self employed health plan be sure and shop around and compare offers from many different companies just like when shopping for any other type of plan. Here is some more information on finding the best self employed health insurance plans: |

Im not sure, but I still feel obligated to warn you about temporary health insurance plans. Do not sign up for any of those. I signed up for Assurant (through ehealthinsurance.com) and I totally got ripped off. Long story, but steer clear of those. |

The cheapest depends on every individuals situation. I would just get many quotes from different companies then pick the best one. When researching health insurance you might want to try and bookmark this site for research information, news, articles, insurance quotes, companies, links and more. It should have the resources to help you with your question.

Ultimately, you are the one who determines the affordability of your health insurance plan by deciding how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care with your insurance company.
If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage as well as low deductibles and low copays your monthly premiums will be significant.
On the other hand if you are young and healthy and rarely use the health care system you could consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe which will result in a relatively low monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay for the occasional doctor visit and still come out ahead.
You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. That adviser can answer questions as to what is and is not covered by the policy, explain deductibles and copays and show you the hospitals and doctors that participate in the network. Check with the agent that writes your home or auto insurance he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health situation.
Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but you probably already know that there is much more to health insurance than price. Some might even "pitch" a discount plan that is not insurance at all. Use the Internet to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage. |

There are far to many varibles that come into play to answer this question.
What type of work do you do? A white collar job has fewer physical health risks than a blue collar job.
How old are you? Rates are based on age like any type of life or health insurance.
What country do you live in? What state or province? Every state or province in different countries offer different products.
What insurance benefits are more important to you? Some companies have better dental plans, some have better drug plans, some have better paramed plans (massage, physio, etc).
Your best bet is to contact a local insurance broker as they will have access to all the companies on the market and they will be able to find a plan that best suits your needs. |

There is no specific plan for someone self employed. Any plan available to someone self employed is also available to someone not self employed.
It depends on where you live, your age, your health, etc... You can try the tool on my home page to see if it'll quote where you live. It works in many states as a comparison tool and requires no personal information to use. |
