Gabriella M | What is the cost of Medical Insurance for an 18 year old? |
I am a 17 year old senior in St. Louis, Mo. I plan to move out of my parents house promptly after the school year is over. My boyfriend and I have been doing a lot of research on apartments and creating a budget. My biggest concern though, is medical insurance.. I'm not sure how much it is going to cost us to be able to have it..
I would really appreciate an average monthly fee, (or at least an idea)
Thank you! |

You can go on to bcbsmi.com
and you can complete a questioneere to give you a "rough" quote.
At your age, unless you have a lot of illness or plan to have a baby right away - you should consider a "HSA" (health savings account).
It will have a higher deductible but the benefits cover - q-tips, cotton balls, dental, vision and the account just keeps building up with interest.... it is really something to consider.
Other wise, "john alden" and humana are just a couple more you could consider. |

There is no "average" because if you were in Maryland it'd be around $100 including maternity. So, don't look for an average cost. Call a health insurance broker that does business where you are and get the correct information.
It's not expensive though....relatively speaking. |

Contact a local UNITED AMERICAN insurance company in your area. Being that you are 17 and I'm sure in good health. We have a $50,000 policy that would cover doctor and hospital coverage and a low deductible of $500 feel free to email if you have any questions

IF you're healthy, it's going to cost you about $200 a month, per person, for a good, low deductible plan. No maternity benefits. No vision or dental.
Cheapest way to get health insurance, is through your employer. |

Gabriella M, Home insurance is actually very flexible. I'm not familiar with all the fine print of my homeowners policy, but my homeowners insurance agent is always a phone call away. Try contacting your agent or a agent in your town. http://www.easyhomeinsuranceguide.com They should be able to help you. |

I would advise not shacking up and staying on your parent's insurance. Your medical insurance costs will be determined by the company you choose and your medical history. A full-time student can remain on their parent's insurance until age 25.
GHP was always a great company to work with when I worked at Citimortgage. They do medical insurance as well for individuals. Again, it really depends on your history and what you want covered, and how much you want covered. Right now our family of 3 costs $13,000/year at United Healthcare. |
