What is the expense to income ratio needed to qualify for Michigan Medicaid?
My expenses exceed my income by $200 to $300 a month, yet I have been turned down twice. I can't get an answer from my case worker. All I get are form letters telling me my expenses don't exceed my income.
Additional Details
Ok, I guess I should add that I am make < 12k a year at a job where I am on my feet for 8 hours at a stretch with no breaks, in spite of severe arthritis in my hips and sciatica. My expenses are basic: housing, car insurance, fuel for the car, food, utilities, etc. I have several prescriptions, visits to specialists coming up, and chronic diagnosed health problems. I also do child care for my daughter and elder care for my mom. If I don't get coverage of some kind, I won't be able to continue to work. Most health plans, including AARP plans are out of my reach.

Adding details does not change the law. Either your income is too much or your income is not too much. Your expenses have nothing to do with it. If you would not qualify with your income and no expenses, then you would not qualify with your income and a million dollars in expenses. If you would not qualify with your income and a million dollars in expenses, then you do not qualify with your income and no expenses.

If you want for your expenses to be considered in any way, then vote for a candidate who is willing to change the law to allow that.

Expense to income ratio is irrelevant. You have income, live within it.

To qualify for medicaid, your income must be below a certain level, and you cannot have any assets. You must also be in need of medical care (e.g. elderly &/or disabled who do not have Medicare, have a small child, not be able to get any sort of medical insurance anywhere else). And they determine what "expenses" are legit compared to income.

Cut your expenses. You are spending too much money. Or else earn more income. You do not meet requirements to live off your fellow taxpayers.

Although expenses are asked for, they're totally irrelevant - except to prove that no one else is supporting you.

It's all about income, assets, and the number of people in your house.

Here's a link to the different income charts: http://www.hrsa.gov/reimbursement/states/Michigan-Eligibility.htm
