In the US there is no law concerning this.
If you were union and had a contract, it would be covered there.
Otherwise, the law is when you are old enough you qualify for Medicare, and you are free to pay for any insurance you want and can afford. |

In the USA there isn't any law that states employers must provide health insurance to any employee, active or retired.
Individual contracts, or union contracts, used to provide some security regarding health insurance, but anyone who has worked for a large auto company can tell you those contracts aren't worth anything anymore.
The USA is the last industrialized nation in the world NOT to have nationalized healthcare FOR EVERYONE and the reason for that is because the large healthcare companies, primarily owned by doctors, payoff the senators and congressman to keep nationalized healthcare from becoming law.
As an aside, when it comes time to vote for the president of the United States of America, you might want to remember that all the candidates gave back money given to their campaigns by the healthcare concerns EXCEPT Hillary Clinton. |

There isn't a law that requires an employer to offer health insurance coverage to retirees. (Or current employees, for that matter. Unless its spelled out in a union contract, of course.)
If you're asking what the law is that governs self-funded retirement plans for employers who do choose to offer benefit to retirees, that falls under ERISA. (Employee Retirement Income Security Act.) |

Try using the internet to research this.
It was a major news article a week or two ago that companies can drop fringe benefits at any time...and that health care for retired employees is first on the chopping block. Even if the company is providing benefits to current employees, they can drop retirees. |

There isn't one. They aren't required to supply health insurance to CURRENT employers, let alone retirees.
Actually (digressing here), I firmly believe that many large cap type companies, particularly those with union retirees, are way overextended on the benefits they've promised. I think it's causing many financial hardships, and they're pulling back on the bennies because of it. But for that reason, I don't invest in any large, unionized companies. Nope, I have NO stock in any of the big three auto companies, either! |
