The actual meaning is "coverage by contract whereby one party undertakes to indemnify or guarantee another against loss by a specified contingency or peril", per Merriam Webster online.
Insurance is meant to protect you from loss, to indemnify you when a covered loss happens.
If your house burns to the ground, but you don't have insurance, then you just lost your home and your investment. Hoever, if you had it insured, you would be "indemnified" or paid the insured value so you could build the house back.
People give insurance a bad name, but it is a mutual contract to help protect you.

unless you always want to cover the entire cost to replace or fix something, insurance is the way to go ... instead of hospital bill for $35,000, your pay $3500 ... it pays for itself if you ever need it ... if you never need it, you are the exception rather than the norm |
