The answer is easy....you need enough to cover your assets, both professional & personal assets. So whatever your assets are, double that amount. |

Call other companies around you that specialize in the same thing, or call your insurance company and talk to them. The city might be helpful too. They can tell you what you need legally. That would probably be your best bet. |

The accurate information should come from your local agent.
You'll likely need general liability coverage, inland marine coverage (to cover your tools & equipment), workers compensation (to cover your employees), and commercial auto (to cover the vehicles). The AMOUNT of coverage - well, for liability coverages, go for $1,000,000. For the inland marine, the cost to replace all your tools & equipment. Workers Comp is statutory limits, so no worry there. And auto, take the $1,000,000 limit also.
For pool chemicals, you likely ALSO need to have a special pesticide license - but that varies by state. As part of the license, you'll need a special liability policy for the pesticide (aka pool chemicals) application. It may or may not be combinable in the general liability policy.
ONce the business has really built up, you'll probably want to throw a commercial umbrella over it all. |

It all depends on your "exposure". You may want to incorporate and do all your business under the corporation so you cannot be personally sued. If you own a home with a sizable amount of equity in it youmay want to look into an umbrella policy. |
