Umm. You've gotta pay it. As long as you call them ASAP and make a payment agreement and stick to it, they should agree. They might make the stipulation of if you miss a payment, they will send you to collection, but that's their right.
They should agree to a payment plan because it's better they get paid a little at a time instead of losing 25 - 60% off the top to a collection agency. If you can pay a chunk of the bill up front, it would even sweeten the deal. |

Your getting the bill from Blue Shield because more then likely thats the carrier for the Hospital itself (their insurance carrier). If you call them - or the hospital's finance dept - you can set up a payment plan to repay the hospital bill. Most hospitals will accept payment plans as long as you stick to it. If you start defaulting on payments, they will turn it over to collection agency and it will go on your credit report. Just call, ask about a payment plan, and make sure its something you can afford. Dont promise more then you can afford. As long as you pay, you'll be ok. |

Call them and explain your situation. They should be able to set you up with a payment plan. |

If you dont have insurance then you shouldnt be getting a bill from blue shield (thats an insurance carrier). Call the hospital and ask them what you owe. Check to see if they did send your bill off to blue shield for some reason. Then
see if the hospital has financial aid.
I worked in the accounting office for a hospital once and we had an aid program. Where we took your income and gave you a percentage off your bill, and then whatever the remainder was we set up a payment plan. Most places will work with you to set up a payment plan because they want their money even if that means sending them 50 bucks a month. |

Just make a small monthly payment. As long as you pay monthly they cannot send it to a collection agency. |

get some kind of insurance immediately. You need to call them to make payment arrangements, because they will send the debt to a collections agency, which will reflect on your credit. |

You should pay the money but i strongly recommend you invest in some kind of insurance because you are paying more on hospital bills than on insurance. You could ask the billing people to pay in payments. |

If you don't pay it does go on your credit report (believe me I know I was in the same situation). HOWEVER, I learned that medical debt is not as harmful to your credit as other debt like credit cards. I hope you are better now. I don't live in CA, but do they have some sort of government assistance for those who don't have insurance? Maybe you could look into that. |

If you don't have insurance, then you shouldn't pay blue shield a dime until you find out what's going on.
Contact the hospital's billing center and see what's up with how your stay was billed and why you got an invoice from blue shield, and if you do have to pay it, you can set up a payment plan with the hospital directly. |
