What should my average house insurance cost?
I'm buying an older house (1920's-1930's) in a working class neighborhood in California for about $200K. What should I expect to pay for my standard homeowner's insurance?

$600 for a basic policy with 3% deductible. $900 if you want to insure jewelry and artwork and have the lowest deductible.

There really is no way anyone here can give you even a ballpark figure because there are too many variables. The insurance covers the cost to rebuild, not the sales price. Is the house frame? What is the square footage? What material is the roof and how old? Is there hard to replace trim in the house? Has the plumbing and electrical been updated? Where in CA is the house located? Is it urban or rural? How far from the nearest fire department? Has there been any claims against the house recently? What is your credit score? Are you going to also insure your auto for the discount? These are just some of the variables that are needed for a quote, some of which you won't want to publish here. Call some local agents to get quotes.

NO idea. It's not dependent on the price you pay - it matters how much it will cost to rebuild, the protection class, claims history for you and the house, how old the major systems are (plumbing, roofing, electrical, hvac), which coverages you select, your deductibles, etc.

There's no short cut. You have to shop around to get the best price - but be sure to ALSO compare coverages.

Help yourself:) You can easily check quotes for this house in internet, for example here: homeinsurance.awardspace.us

yodasminion, Home insurance covers lots of different things. I'm not familiar with the California laws and regulations, so I recommend you visit a nearby home insurance agent. http://www.goodinternetdeals.com/Home-Insurance.html They should be able to help you.
