ProKC | What the Eff? Can I sue? |
Ok, so I had an interview with a gay who owns his own company with his brother in law last night. I found this place through a staffing firm, and the recruiter informed me that he only wanted to see me out of all the other applicants because I was the only one with office and Graphic Design experience. The night before the interview, the owner e-mailed me and asked to bring my laptop. I never told him or the recruiter that I had one, so I let him know that. However, I told him that there was a chance that I could cart my desktop around if it didn't rain. He responded with "Desktop would be good. If you can't bring it, that's ok, we will talk about that later". Cool. So, I couldn't bring the desktop because it was raining and the damn thing is too heavy anyway. I went to the interview and it went great. We spent an hour and a half talking about how I would fit in with the company. He said he was impressed by my skills and how smart I was. When he asked about the desktop I explained to him that I wasn't able to bring it, and he said that he only wanted me to bring it because he wanted to see what programs I used. to this, I responded and told him I have experience in Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office.
I left feeling like I had a job. He even told me that I'd be coming back! The next morning, the recruiter called me happily telling me that the owner wanted to see me again at 1pm today and that she's need to talk to all of my references before noon. She did, and they all gave me stunning references.
I was only five minutes away from the interview when she called telling me the owner was going to pass on hiring me. She and I were both puzzled. She informed me that he explained to her that he felt like I wasn't listening to him in the interview the previous night (even though I recited something he'd said verbatim earlier in the interview). She expressed to me that she'd had problems with him before and that he was difficult.
My question is...What the f***!??? I HAD the job!! He told me I did! Why change his mind?? Especially when I was right there? Is there a nice way I can ask him wtf his problem is and why he changed his bipolar mind? Additional Details I meant guy not gay in the first sentence...sorry. |

~~I can sure understand how frustrated and angry you must feel. This guy really let you down and in this economy, it is a double blow.
There is nothing you can sue for as there was nothing put in writing.
It may be some financial news made this man decide he could not afford you. It may be his way of saving face, to blame you for not getting the job.
Does not make it right, and I am sorry this happened. I just feel there was allot more to this than what he said. Unfortunately, he made it seem like your fault, making it feel like a triple defeat.~~ |

Let's go back to what the recruiter said: She's had problems with him before and he is difficult.
Think about this, do you really want to be working for the guy? If this is the way he is about interviewing and hiring, imagine what he must be like to work for!!
You're better off without this job. |

Be glad, very glad, that you did not go to work for this guy.
He saved you from a lot of grief later.
Be glad you didn't get that job. And, remember, employers ofter lie to make you feel good when your there but still will not hire you later.
You might want to repost your question under careers and not insurance. |

Unless it's discrimination, I doubt it. Employers have a right to change their mind.
You can sue for anything. |

Sue for what? You suffered no loss, just disappointment. These things will happen. Get over it and move on. |

If I were you i'd think of this as a lesson learned. When you try for another job interview remember what you were taught, and if you feel there's some problem ask questions, during the interview is the time to ask the questions. don't forget to listen also.
good luck for next time
p.s I wouldn't bother suing leave it alone.
