Talk to the claim person. They will want to reinspect the car first. They must pay you based on the value to repair or replace your car, and according to your policy provisions and state laws, but I wouldn't take the word of a body shop man on what you should do.
You can use the car you found as a reference on replacement price, but they don't have to buy it for you.
You will also want to know who is eating that 5,000. in damages and how come they didn't notice the bent frame before putting that much money into it.
P.S. If the body shop wants to keep the salvage, don't let them. |

Get the new one, you don't want one that has been wrecked, because you'll have all sorts of problems then.
Was your jeep paid off? If you had car payments before, then you may still have car payments. It would be worth it to have a new one, it seems to me.
By the way, watch for your premiums to go up. Maybe not all companies do that, but years ago, somebody hit me and they were uninsured, and my uninsured motorist coverage paid for the damages.... but then my premiums went up, even though I was rear-ended and it wasn't my fault. |

I think most auto carriers will total your car and cut you a check for the actual cash value, which is the replacement cost less depreciation - carriers don't always go by the blue book value. Once you get your check, if you can afford the Jeep you want, you can go buy it.
If you insure to replacement cost, they will replace it for you. |

OK, they should eat the initial repair costs if it was already totalled, no fair dumping extra repairs on you aside from the initial quote. Talk to someone you trust about this.
I sold my Cherokee to the junkyard for about $400 (it got t-boned, and I didn;t have comprehensive) and used that as part of a down payment on my second one. |
