I am lucky, I do not have one. But, my dad did. About 10 years ago, when he was 50, he started having shortness of breath and chest pains. We decided to head to the ER (called his doctor who approved it and urged us to do so). We got there and he spent the night and they ran a ton of tests. He did not have a heart attack, he had some kind of sudden allergic reaction.
The bill was very high. The insurance company (he pays a lot in premiums) refused to pay at first. It took him 18 months to get it settled, during which he could have really had a heart attack. One of the representatives actually said he had to pay the bill because he "did not die", and went on to further say that he should have not gone to the hospital. UGH! |

I break my arm, the Doctor refuses to treat me because his cell phone battery is dead. He gets in his car and drives 14 hours to Atlanta to talk to the company. He arrives on Sunday and they are closed. My Doctor meets a woman at a bar and runs of to Tahiti with her. I sit in the ER with the broken arm next to a guy who has pee'd himself and a habitual gambler.
They man bets me that my Doctor has done all of these things, agreeing to bet his home against mine. I, of course, lose the bet and become homeless. |

My husband spent 2 weeks in Ireland one step down from intensive care. Because I did not call the insurance carrier within 24 hrs of his being in hospital, they would only pay after we paid. Thank God it was Ireland, we paid 6 months to the day later, and it all ended well with us getting our money back |
