What would happen if you were caught driving without insurance?

Each state is different. In my State Insurance on a vehicle is not required. BUT if you are in an accident and are liable then Their goes your retirement and savings. Also..you will have to show proof of financial responsibility. Wierd way of doing it but the law. In the State south of me it is required to show financial responsibility (insurance) in order to register the car and get licensed. Check with your Motor Vehicle dept on the ramifications of driving with out coverage.

You could get suspended or they can impound your vehicle with a big ticket. Play it smart! buy insurance.

npwinder
depends on the state.

some will take your license away. others may put you in jail.

You maybe able to get insurance and prove it in a few days.

IN TEXAS THEY TOW YOUR CAR...AND YOU GO TO JAIL...

Unless you live out west, the cops will probably try to get your plates off the car in a court date proceeding, then the fines, etc.

In AZ they tow your car and fine you.

Ditto all the above. Plus, imagine losing everything you own if you cause an accident and someone gets killed. Do you have enough money in your piggy bank to handle a lawsuit?

Depends on the circumstances. Anywhere from the car being impounded and you being arrested, to just getting a ticket and a hefty fine. If a major accident or violation is involved, you'll likely be required to have an SR-22 filing, and might face suspension of your license.

The penalty for driving without insurance varies from state to state. In some states, your vehicle tag can be seized and your car impounded. In addition, some states impose heavy fines for those who drive without auto insurance. Limited sates fine a fee of $150 to $500 for driving without insurance.

The consequences can be far more serious if you are involved in an accident and do not have insurance. You may have to comply with the financial responsibility laws (SR22, SR22s, SR16) including having to pay for any injuries or damages out of your own pocket.
