♥TeenieWoo♥ | Whats really good, cheap health insurance? |
I need good health insurance that covers everything from medications to doctors visits to dental. I need it cheap though. My father left my family and since the child support and everything stopped, it's just my mom and I. She gets insurance through work, but still can't afford to put me on it with everything we pay on. We went for financial help and they said that she makes to much for anyone to help us. I'm just really worried i'll get really sick one day and then we'll have a ton of doctors bill or even hospital bills to pay. I live in North Carolina if that helps. I honestly have applications in everywhere, but no one will hire me, I have experience and a high school deploma, otherwise i'd have benefits or be able to pay for health insurance on my own. Any ideas? Thanks. |

I am on a short term health insurance plan becuase my company doesn't offer insurance and my spouse has to wait 6 months before we can get on her group plan. This might be a good option for you, since you will eventually be covered by a group plan once you find employment. The short term plan is cheap for me, about 160 a month. (That is with a 250 deductible, you can get it cheaper if you had a higher deductible, I think around 50 bucks a month) it covers everything, no co-pays, and comes with a really good discount card for dental and vision and prescriptions and stuff. Then you can get a job where you want, and not settle for some place just cause they offer insurance. |

"I need good health insurance that covers everything from medications to doctors visits to dental. I need it cheap though"
That is like saying I want a BMW but I can't afford to pay any more than what a Chevy Cobalt costs.
Very simply you can't have both the best coverage and the cheapest cost. No can do!
If your Mom can put you on her group plan that is the cheapest way to go because the employer is getting a group rate and is probably contributing something towards the monthly premium.
As an individual seeking health coverage I can assure you that you will not get a better price than the group rate and still have a low deductible, prescription drug coverage, low doctors visit copays and dental. Because you are young you can probably get a reasonably low monthly premium in the individual market but it will not have all the features you desire. |

Okay, here it is straight up... There is great insurance that is affordable but there is not cheap insurance that is worth a crap.
I am young, you look young too... You can get insurance on your own that is pretty good and inexpensive. I am a fan of United Health care so that is who I went to, and used their direct insurance company Golden Rule. They have several different types of plans from traditional 80-20 co-insurance plans with your choice of low or high deductables to HSA savings plans with your choice of co-insurance percentage and deductables. Just pay attention to what it covers, my is great but the only thing it won't cover is maternity (which is kinda what I want ---eventually)...
Good luck, you as a young adult need to step out from you mothers shadow and learn about these things while she is still there to help you make the wiser decisions.
If major medical is still too expensive you could seek out "supplemental insurance" like (AFLAC) that is not medical insurance but it will pay you money for things like hospitalizations or accidents. Each policy covers something different and you have the option to pick the one you are most worried about and most times they run 30-45$ a month. They can pay off really well is sever circumstances and emergencies. |

Dental is a seperate policy, and it's always going to cost more than it pays out.
Good health insurance costs money. If you're 20 and healthy, it's GOING to cost $200 a month, unless you want to take on a huge deductible. If she can't afford to add you to her policy, you're not going to be able to afford your own plan - the cheapest plans are ALWAYS through an employer.
UPS and Walmart offer health insurance access for part time workers. I'd suggest applying there.
And if you're an adult, you might just need to move someplace where you CAN work. |
