Unless it is for medical reasons you will not be able to find a provider to cover it.
Reasons:
1.It will be seen as a pre-existing condition
2. Cosmetic not medical |

I don't think any insurance will cover weight loss surgery unless your doctor can fight with your insurance company to tell them that it is medically nessesary. I really think you are out of luck unless you call around to see what ones will if your doctor says it is really needed. That kind of surgery is really optional since there are a lot of other ways to lose weight without surgery. |

Unless the surgery is necessary for health reasons, no insurer will pay for it. It will be considered a cosmetic procedure.
If you are already obese and want to buy insurance specifically for this surgery, you might be prevented by a pre-existing condition clause.
You would probably have to be insured for several years to get past that. |

Very few insurances cover this, as it's elective surgery. The ones that will eventually cover it, make you jump through hoops first. |

None that you can buy on an individual basis will cover it. However, some companies that are self-insured will cover it. For example, American Airlines is self-insured (United Health Care is their TPA) and they will cover it for their employees. When you are self-insured, you name what you cover and what you don't and pay a company like United to administer the claims for you. |

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps. |

None of them. Because it can be called a cosmetic or elective procedure, health insurances are not obligated to cover any weight loss surgery. Some plans will consider it if proof of medical (i.e. patient's life is in imminent danger) necessity can be provided by the doctor, but even then, the patient will still have a large out of pocket cost. |

Hi, just thought I’d share there’s a company out there who’s service helps people who are paying out of pocket for the healthcare save considerable amounts of money. Unlike regular insurance, there's no pre-existing condition restrictions, high premiums, deductibles, co-pays, waiting periods, limits, claims forms or anything like that at all. They can save you up to 80% or more on your out of pocket expenses for so much less than all the other companies. It works much like a Sam’s Club Card. They cover regular office visits, specialists like orthodontists, any pre-existing conditions like diabetes and pregnancy and even ancillary care and hospital advocacy. It basically includes everything you need help paying for, including any kind of surgery, as long as you have a provider in your area. If you are paying out of pocket, they seriously can save you so much money without the hassle of expensive insurance. They have a medical plan as well as a dental plan that both include vision, prescription and chiropractic benefits. They will even negotiate any kind of hospital bill over $2500 down for you based your ability to pay. They have over 400,000 providers nationwide, so it is available almost everywhere. They are truly a wonderful company and are members of the Better Business Bureau. I know several people who have benefits through them, and everything they say about them is nothing but positive. It’s just crazy how much people are shelling out for their healthcare, so I‘m so glad there‘s an alternative out there for people to save some money. Here’s the link you can check out the specifics and providers in your area. http://www.everyonebenefits.com/40424269/. If your preferred provider isn't on there, they do accept referrals. I hope this helps you and you find what you need. |

The best thing would be to go on a wls site and ask people who have had it. The problem is you may have the same company and a different plan so even though some companies may cover it for some they may not you if you do not have the right plan. I had cigna when I had mine 5 years ago but it was easier to get approved back then but so many people were having it done that insurance companies tightened their eligibilatities. But it is equally as important to find a really good dr. So again finding a group online where you can get info and answers to any questions you may have. Having the surgery is a lifetime committment.
For me I have no regrets. It has given me my life back. But I had and have to work hard to lose and maintain it.
