I think it might be because they are really responsible for these sub-prime lenders. it did happen under their watch. now people that they care about, i.e rich people, are suffering because of their predatory lending to the poor people. sooooo, to make a long story short, by helping the poor people repay their loans, they are actually helping the rich people continue to receive extraordinary cuts form the high interest rates and the dividends the stocks will pay from not folding under mass foreclosures. |

I agree..people got into the mess they knew they couldn't afford and this not only bails out the scofflaws but those lenders that allowed the loans in the first place.
I am waiting for democrats to say it isn't enough.
How about a bail out for those businesses that are having a hard time..or how about anyone who is having a hard time....this is going to open a pandoras box of gov't subsidy for ones self failures. |

I can't believe that they woul... Nevermind!!! We are talking about the government. The same people who have stepped in time and time again to fix the problems of Amtrak. Yet, they refuse to fix social security or medicare. They offer only temporary measures, like this.
They waste money on this stuff but won't fix the other more important things. What a waste!!! |

the way I understand it - it is not direct aid to the homeowner - the loan is still due - some lenders made loans at affordable rates and than increased the interest rates so high that some payments doubled overnight - making it impossible to meet that payment every month.
now these people are paying more for their house than it is actually worth |

Government and policiticians buy votes, by taking money from responsible American, and re-distributing it to irresponsible (and deadbeat) Americans. That's how the system works.
I don't think this is going to help out much, though. These people who are in over their heads, will lose their houses eventually anyway. |

At this point, Wall Street and their buddies in Washington are trying different methods to pressure the Fed to lower interest rates. This will help corporate dividends and increase profits by lowering borrowing costs. Good for the corporate bottom line.
As far a really helping people, LOL. Cutting rates is not going to help someone who bought a home they couldn't afford to begin with. There will be a few programs, some money will be put into them, maybe even a few people will get bailed out, but not much will come of it. Ten years from now we'll look back at the "sub-prime mess" and say "what were we thinking?"; Twenty years from now we'll forget the lessons and do something equally stupid. |
