When I buy a house and the insurance comp. comes to take pictures do they do just the outside?
Do they need access to my back yard? Also, how long after closing do they usually come to take the pictures? You can tell me from your own experience bc I know there is no set time. Also, if it helps I am in Georgia.

Carrie C, Home insurance covers lots of different things. I'm not familiar with the Georgia regulations, so I suggest you visit a nearby homeowners insurance agent. http://www.easyhomeinsuranceguide.com/Georgia-Home-Insurance.html They should be able to help you.

I'm an insurance agent. It depends entirely on the insurance company and the age of the dwelling. Some companies require photos before binding, some send out inspection people after..it all depends on the company. Some just want pictures of the front, some want all sides, some want to see the inside. The only way to know is to ask your agent. Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer but that's just the truth!

~~We have only had State Farm and they have only taken pictures of the outside from the front yard. My agent said they needed information on the roof and surrounding trees.~~

They will look in, and maybe enter your back yard. Usually, they come within 30 days of the policy being purchased.

Sometimes, especially for an older house, they will do an interior inspection as well.

Typically most companies will send out an independent inspector within 30-45 days that the policy is issued. They will measure your house (for square footage) Take a photo of the front, rear, and any additionally insured outbuildings, take a picture of your roof, and any hazards (Trees too close, vicious dogs, bad siding, etc) My husband actually works for a company that does this and the only time he has to go inside is if there's a wood burner, and old electric box (fuse box), OR if it's a High Value Dwelling (4 thousand square feet and above) I hope I helped!
