You should be able to make a claim as soon as the coverage is effective. For Example if you take out apolicy on Monday October 1 and it is effective from Tuesday October 2nd and you break your leg on the 2nd it should be covered.
Call your insurance provider to verify |

I don't think you'd be able to claim the next day.
When you take out your policy, you have to say that you have no pre existing conditions, or if you do have them, that you haven't suffered from them in a certain time period. If you put in a claim day after taking it out, then its obvious that you lied about having no conditions and so the insurance would be invalid.
The only exception I suppose would be if you had an accident and injured yourself that way, as that wouldn't be able to be predicted. |

if it's a "pre-existing condition" you're not covered. |

I consulted a colleague to ask her opinion and it was pretty much spot on what I thought.
If you were to take out a policy today and then tomorrow you had an accident or discovered a illness that could be claimed for, you could (in theory) record a claim on the policy straight away. I would however advise you to read through your policy wording thoroughly to check this.
Insurance companies are different from company to company, but work on the basis that the insurance company wouldn't cover a pre-existing accident or illness. In addition take into account that you will probably have a deferred period, typically 7 days or 14 days.
Any claim submitted a day after inception of the policy would undoubtedly be gone through with a fine-tooth comb though. |

You can make a the day it takes affect, assuming the VISIT to the doctor occurs on the same day. |

There is usually a clause in your agreement as to how soon it is until you make a claim... Any existing medical condition must be declared at the time of application and you would not be able to claim for this existing condition... Really tou are expected to be perfectly healthy at the time the policy commences... |

It varies widely depending on your insurer and is usualy stipulated in the "short version" of the Terms and conditions (if there is one) otherwise you may need to wade through the small print for it.
Or become British, we may have a large amount of MRSA but at least they wont kick you out when your at deaths door because your cash is low. |

Hmmmm - I'm sure it's about 3 months. Do you have a policy - check the small print but I think that's what mine was (before I cancelled it) |

usually varies between 1 and 3 months, with somewhat longer for any pregnancy based benefits.... |
