Talk to an independent health insurance broker. A broker works with several health insurers and can help figure out the best plan, company, rates and coverage. To find a qualified health insurance broker, log on to a website like http://www.healthinsurancewiz.com and fill out a form requesting a free quote. Your information will be sent to a broker in your area who will contact you
You might consider an IRS-approved High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). As the name suggests, it has high deductible amounts, so the premiums are much lower than with traditional health insurance. Under federal law, the minimum deductible in a HDHP plan is $1,100 for an individual; the maximum is $5,500.
An HDHP allows you to shelter up to $2,850 per year from federal and state taxes in a Health Savings Account (HSA). Depending on your tax bracket and where you live, that could save you as much as $1,480 in taxes per year, assuming a combined tax rate of 51.95%—35% in federal income tax, and 7.65% in Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax, and 9.3% in state income tax (California). |

Addition to the above answerer. Stick to not for profit/non profit companies (BC/BS). The for profit private insurers love to cover you until you get really sick, then jack your rates through the roof and start denying you coverage.
The younger and healthier you are, the cheaper the rates will be. |

Health insurance costs what it costs. If you're healthy and 25, it's GOING to run you $250 a month for a good plan. If you're older, or not healthy, it's going to cost more, or they flat out won't cover you.
Fake health policies are a new scam . . . the best way to avoid being scammed is to NOT buy over the internet. Go to a local agent, and ask for a local referral if he can't sell you health coverage.
With health, you get what you pay for. |

You need to be very careful here. There are a lot of fly by night insurance companies that will charge you a "reasonable" rate but will find a way to deny every claim. Then you will be stuck paying the premium and the doctor bill. Stick with the major carriers such as United Healthcare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, etc. Most of the major plans now offer alternatives for individuals to purchase plans. The costs vary based on the amount of coverage you buy. |

Depends where you live - Seattle, WA, has a couple of good options - otherwise, i would contact DSHS in your locale and ask them for a referral. or perhaps, "public health" on line...good luck - life's a ***** and then you die - with or without insurance..... |
