You can get that answer from your State Insurance Commissioner (or department). The regulations and requirements vary from state to state. |

Read your policy manual and consult any state law quoted by the manual. |

go on the computer and go to the insurance company site that you are inquirying about |

It depends upon the state where the policy was issued and delivered to the policyholder. Contact the insurance commissioner's office in that state and request a copy. |

I have access to Oden Insurance Services for work. This is where I look up claims settlement statutes for each state individually. You have to pay for access to this site.
I googled claims settlement statutes and didn't come up with anything as concise and comprehensive as Oden. You truly will have to pay for this info, or approach the specific state for which you need info. Nobody keeps a compendium this complicated and dynamic for free. |

It depends...what state are you in?
They are regulated by the state they operate in...so they are subject to different rules in different states. |

Your state legislature has such laws. |

Call your state insurance department. They can tell you. The state insurance department is the ones who govern this regulation. Also, keep in mind, state's insurance laws do vary. So, a friend of yours in Ohio may tell you a different story than a friend in Indiana. |

The federal government decided long ago (in the Supreme Court) that it is up to the states to regulate insurance themselves do the personal and local nature of insurance. Every state has different ways of handling insurance. Each state has a department of insurance that regulates the way insurance companies can conduct business in their states from premiums charged to the way claims are handled.
The state of New York has some of the strickest and widest ranging laws in the country. Many states have their insurance laws modeled after New York's. Most insurance companies set themselves up to comply with New York's laws because they desire to do business there.
Each state should have a number to call (you may find this online at your dept of insurance website) to report abuse. You may also be able to ask your insurance agent about specific laws for your state and about how to contact your state's insurance commissioner.
Hopefully this answered your question. |
