Health insurance can be very tricky. Since I'm from Texas I'm not sure about Washington regulations, so I suggest you visit a local insurance agent. http://www.goodinternetdeals.com/Health-Insurance.html They will be able to help you. |

~~Check with the University, county you live in, and with your state, to see if there are any programs available to help you with costs. Sometimes, especially with Universities, they will help you with a discount because of financial hardship.
One of these three options should refer you to someplace if they don't have aid available, so you can have the testing done. I would start with UW first. Best of luck!~~ |

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you will not be able to get regular health insurance that will cover the test. You can purchase health insurance but they will not cover the hearing loss as a pre-existing condition and will rider the condition. Depending on the plans in your state this rider may or may not be permanent.
There may be some defined benefit plans available in your state. These plans have many restrictions and may or may not benefit you.
Another option would be Medicaid (welfare). You can call your state Medicaid office to see if you qualify. They base the qualifications on income and assets; so if you're not working you should qualify based on income but may not qualify based on your assets.
Visit a local agent that works with all the major plans in your area for more information about what the insurance companies would do for a regular insurance plan and what defined benefit plans are available.
You can try Social Security as mentioned above, but Social Security disability doesn't cover medical until you've been listed as disabled for 24 months; then you'll qualify for Medicare. Also, a hearing loss is not always a qualifying disability. |

Oh, PLEASE. A hearing loss is NOT a disability. And no health insurer is going to pay for a hearing test, they KNOW that once you submit that bill, you lied on the application for coverage.
You should get a job. Lots of jobs don't require much hearing at all. Then you'll have the money to pay for the hearing test.
And a hearing test at a SCHOOL should cost you maybe $100, IF THAT. So go to a local college with an audiology department. |
