Where can I get health insurance if?
Where can I get health insurance if I am am a college student? The thing is that I have thyroid problems and I have depression and anxiety as well. And just recently I finished both my medicines and I don't have money to purchase any. They are expensive! Where can I get some health insurance?

Well, likely you're not going to get someone to pay mental health benefits.

The thyroid is CHEAP. Several varieties are on Target & Walmart's $4 list, so just pay for THOSE out of pocket.

Honestly, your best bet is the school plan. A regular plan costs about $250 a month, but not for you, I'm guessing, because of your "preexisitng conditions". I really think it's going to be cheaper to pay out of pocket for all this stuff, than buy a high risk health policy to help you pay for it.

Anyway. Go to a local, independent agent, and ask them for quotes for individual plans. Be sure you're buying INSURANCE, and not a "discount plan" like they sell you over hte internet.

Colleges normally have very low cost insurance. Check with your school to find out what programs are available or call a local insurance agent such as State Farm.

Your parents should be able to add you to their policy at low cost unless you are over 22.

Best is to find out who offers health insurance in your area, and contact them and explain your situation, you can start by just asking questions to them, without giving your information, if they seem like they are willing to help then you can procede.

I really don't like to tell you this but you are not going to find any insurance company that is willing to insure you because of your pre-existing medical conditions.

However, many state departments of insurance have somewhat of an assigned risk pool. In this situation all health insurors are required to accept a poor risk on a rotational basis. You need to get in touch with your state department of insurance, tell them your situations and ask for their help.
Good luck.

Unfortunately, everything you've listed will be considered a pre-existing condition. So, even if you were able to get health insurance (and yes, it's possible that you may be declined flat out), the company would not cover anything related to your pre-existing conditions for at least the first 12-18 months.

If you're without your medications now, you need to look into some other options. For instance, many colleges have a student health center and they may be able to assist you with getting your medication at a reduced rate, or (possibly) even free.

That's not a long-term solution to your problem, though; you should still look into getting health insurance if you can. What's available depends on your location, so it would help if you could at least list a state.
