If the assault caused his death, you may be able to get money from the fund. That is why it was created to help crime victims.
When dealing with the funeral home, they have to disclose prices upfront if you ask them. Seems tacky to negotiate when you have a family member to hold a service for, but you may be able to find a more affordable service that still honors his memory. Good luck and may God bless your family. |

Check with local charities, your church denomination, the DA for a victim's fund that might help and a local funeral director's orginization.

First off very sorry for your loss.
Well you dont have to pay funeral expense right way. However their expense have the first claim on your father's estate. I am not sure what kind of and estate your father would have (home, personal items, stocks, bonds). The funeral expense if paid for you should be reimbursed from the estate. Also look to be sure your father had no life insurance. He may of had a paid up policy or possibiliy something that was part of a benefit package (if retired). Sorry not sure if this was any help. |

I agree with the other commenters - contact local charities, churches, etc. Also, talk to the funeral home - if they know your situation, I KNOW they will work with you on payment arrangements, and may even be willing to provide some services at reduced costs.

I've seen this situation too often. One thing you could do is in the obituary say to send money instead of flowers to help pay for the funeral. Also, make up a flyer to hang up around town at the libraries, grocery stores, VFW (if he was a veteran), bingo halls (if he played bingo), etc. You need to find everyone whose life he made better so they will help you in this difficult situation. |

Sure, contact the city coroner's office. Now, you can't get the "bells & whistles" funeral on the taxpayer, but you CAN get a simple cremation and maybe a service at your church, for not much money.
Most cities have provisions for the poor and indigent that die. |

I, too am having a problem finding someone to assist me with my mother's funeral expenses from 09/09/09. I'm living on an income of $806. This doesn't go far enough to pay my own everyday expenses. I try to send what I can when I can to bring the balance down, but it just isn't enough. It will take me 30 plus years to pay it off. I can't send something every month, but when I can, it's usually only $50. The director is not very happy. I'm so desperate. I've gone everywhere you could possibly think of on the internet, local catholic services, Salvation Army. Payday loans are out of the question. You never actually get to a site who will lend the money. You fill out application after application only to be prequalified and sent on to other prequalifiers, then ads to buy something or join something and get a free trial for so many days and then your credit card is billed for the full membership price, which is usually more than anything is worth. It's all a scam. I just don't know where to turn. I've run out of resources. All my family is gone, who might have been able to help me. Can someone tell me where to go to get some help with at least some of the debt to bring the balance down. I live in Northeastern PA.
Someone, please hear me. I've been praying about this and I will continue to pray.
