Contact the Department of Insurance in your state. You can look it up by search "department of insurance + "your state" on Google.
Or, go to http://www.naic.org/state_web_map.htm they have the list and links to all the Departments of Insurance for every state in th U.S.
Then you can ask them about all complaints on file for the specific insurance companies your are interested in for the reports.

well pretty much any company has a forum or website that wirts bad review or stories on them these days try puttin the on google, like allstate sucks or something like that you'll see

There is a rating system for insurance company's A, AA, AAA this is put out by a neutral third party...sorry the name escapes me..call another insurance company and ask their rating and who does the rating..then contact them..also Better Business Bureau..and your local ombudsman

Your state insurance department is on the internet, and has, as a matter of public record that you can look up, the status of complaints against insurance companies.
Be prepared to spend hours and hours and hours reading them.
