You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but you probably already know that there is much more to health insurance than price. Some might even suggest a discount plan which isn't insurance at all.
Ultimately, you are the one who determines the affordability of your health insurance plan by deciding how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care with your insurance company.
If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage as well as low deductibles and low copays your monthly premiums will be significant.
On the other hand if you and your husband are young and healthy and rarely use the health care system you could consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe which will result in a relatively low monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay for the occasional doctor visit and still come out ahead.
Check with the agent that writes your home, auto or business insurance he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health situation.
Use the Internet to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage. |

Call a local agent. The policies available depend on where you live. An experienced agent can narrow down your options to one that best fits your needs, and that you can afford in just a few minutes. Avoid the online shopping, there is just simply too much information, and too many scams to watch out for. Also, be open minded about an HSA type of policy. For more info about HSA's see link below.

First of all insurance is a regulated business so you DON'T save money by going to a big online insurer and you don't save money by going through a wholesale food club.
Just find an insurance broker to help you. There is lots of useful information on my site and in my blog.

~~If you live in CA, WA, OR, NV. or HI you can get health, and dental insurance through Costco and it's the best. Great rates and very good insurance. The girl we used to set ours up is Lisa and her number is 1-800-611-9057 ext 123 then hit the # key. She was so awesome at going over everything and explaining it all in very simple terms. We can't be happier. If you don't live in one of those states, I would get a local agent who carries different brands, or you can go through www.ehealthinsurance.com Best of luck!~~ |
