The only chance you have is if you are terminally ill. If you are highly likely to die before the term expires, there are some companies who will loan you money.
Otherwise, its worthless. |

Dont listen to some of the other answers as they are wrong.
Usually banks want some collateral to give you a loan, but may want a policy as well in case you die. that way they get paid back and dont get stuck with your collateral.
As far as types of policies available, you can use a term policy with a collateral assignment on it. That way you have teh coverage you need, and are not able to change the beneficiary without the bank knowing about it. |

No bank will let you use a term policy as collateral.
Also, the only way they can collect on the policy is if you croak. That doesn't allow them to collect should you just walk away from the loan. They would have to wait until you died to collect, and that may be 60 years from now. And, by then, the policy may have lapsed due to nonpayment or simply expired. |

If it's term insurance - it's useless as collateral. You can only borrow against Whole life - the cash surrender value portion = and that's usually very low compared to the coverage amount - forget it-not going to happen |

None. Life insurance isn't collateral, because you can sign them as beneficiary today, then change over to me tomorrow.
Plus, if you stop paying the premium, it lapses, then NEITHER of us can collect if you kick off. |

A bank may ask you to collaterally assign the policy to help cover certain risks, but they will not loan you money just for your policy. With a term policy, the only way you are getting money from it is to sell it to a third party, and that only works if you are really sick or old. |
