They are pushing it. Some people might just have a direct debit and not even notice.
That way even if they lose 50% of their customers they are losing 50% of risk and they make up from their losses by the 100% increase charged to the lazy ones.

They just jacked rates up 100% with no accidents or any points on your license? Sounds strange, but you can expect any trick from auto insurance company.
There is no such thing as most reasonable rates. Everything depends on your particular situation and your driving records. The right way to find your rates is following:
1. Obtain several insurance quotes online from any of the site offering this kind of service, here for instance:

2. Do not sign for something, even if some rates here will be really attractive to you. But instead keep these numbers in mind and call neighboring car insurance agent to find out his/her numbers. Compare those rates, but still do hurry to sing up yet. You need to be convinced that company, which offering you a superior rate is really a dependable business with good rating.

Company rated AA or higher is usually good auto insurance company. You can sing up with no hesitation. If auto insurance company rated lesser than AA, it doesn’t indicate it is without a doubt bad company, but you need to be cautious, and it is better to avoid doing commerce with them. no one has reasonable rates,
especially for new cars
its all income that the government taxes, which we call mandatory. The goverment takes 50 to 70% of the largest insurance underwriters income, and the insurance companies PASS the difference unto us.
the genius who came up with this system and who also made insurance manditory are EVIL
you can check your sales agent about getting a different policy where your liscense is insured and not the car.
