I am about a month away from closing on a house in the north eastern US and i would like some advice on insurance providers. Who is the best? Any i should stay away from?

There's no one size fits all best. Use an A rated carrier, with a local agent. And let them shop around to about 10 different insurance companies to get the best coverage and rates for YOU.

there is no one size fits all in insurance. call an independent agent and let them look around for you. stay with an "A" rated company. make sure you have replacement cost on the home and your contents. make sure you carry a good amount of liability coverage. i quote at least $500,000 on this. liability is cheap on a homeowners and is as important in todays world as the coverage on the home itself. a standard home policy is written on an HO3 form and if you can get an HE7 form policy thats even better coverage.
