Who pays the damages when the power surges and goes out?
This past week we had really bad storms go through I think so far this Thursday has been the worst. Well the power went out and is estimate to be out for a few days. Before it went out my power seem to surge and the TV went dead before power died. Well I was able to take it to my sisters which here house has power and doesn’t seem to work, does insurance pay for it or electric company. Other thing is that my food is going to waste. Do I have to pay or is this something my electric company or insurance covers. And thank god there is no flooding yet. Any help will be great and thank you all in advance. Additional Details Well the food items tally over $500 and the TV cost us $3200 new. But I am going talk it over see what to do
The electric company is not responsible. If you decide to make an insurance claim on the TV and lost food items, make sure your deductible isn't higher than the lost items and/or your insurance premiums won't go up. Sometimes it is cheaper just to write off your loses. Good luck to you.

you can check with your insurance company or rental insurance company but most likely it isn't worth putting
such a small claim in and having your rates go up.

NOT THE ELECTRIC COMPANY ..FOR SURE.
Jeff
You should buy a surge protector to protect your own appliances and you could get a generator to have power if it goes out for an extended period. The power company will not take responsibility for power surges or loss of power - as far as damages go. It happens all the time.

your home insurance or renters insurance policy would pay for the tv if it is more than your deductible.
if you have a food spoilage endorsement on the policy, it would pay for that too, but most people do not carry this.
call your ins company and they can tell you if its covered and what your ded is

I suppose you can file a claim with your homeowner's or renter's insurance, but if you have a deductible, it's probably going to be cheaper to simply replace the TV yourself.

your homeowners ins. isnt going to pay f/ the tv, neither will the electric co. and unless you added coverage to your policy for refridgerated products, your pretty much SOL there too. sorry.
