Who to ask for Help with Changing Life Insurance beneficiary to Funeral Home?

All of the people answering that you should not do this are ill-educated and you should not listen to them ranting about something they know nothing about. You can make a funeral home the beneficiary of your policy so that in the event you would ever need to go into a nursing home, the state cannot count that policy as an asset, therefore qualifying you for the benefits needed to be in a nursing home. The funeral home will NOT rip you off or spend more than is in your policy, people have no idea what they are talking about. Call your funeral home of choice and then you can contact your insurance company and they will send you the form to change the beneficiary (which you CAN change if you wish). Please DO NOT heed the advice that tells you to cash out your policy. NEVER cash out your policy, that is very, very bad advice. Speak to a funeral home that you trust before making any decisions. Good luck!

The previous poster who advised you to NEVER do this is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. NEVER sign away a funeral home as beneficiary to a life insurance policy. Did they talk you into this or do you, unfortunately, have no one to leave the money to? If you have no one to leave the money to, then that is understood; otherwise, it might be that they're trying to rip you off.

In fact, in some states it is ILLEGAL for a funeral home to be listed as a beneficiary on a life insurance policy. I know, for a fact, that in Illinois it is against the law.

I would advise that you have a relative listed as the beneficiary who can help to pay for final expenses after your death. And wouldn't it be nice to know that the money is going to someone who can use it according to your wishes after your gone? A lot of older parents like to leave something for their children's security after they're gone. DO THIS instead.

We did this for my mother's funeral expenses. It smooths out the paper work and means one less detail you or the executor of the estate has to worry about at a time when you have other things on your mind.

The funeral home can take care of this for you. They should have some body on staff called "Insurance Services". They will need to know:

1) The name of your life insurance company.
2) Policy number.
3) Phone number of company.

They will contact your company and get all the necessary forms. Once they receive it you will need to sign them.

NEVER DO THIS. Funeral homes do this because you'll hand them a $5,000 policy that was taken out 30 years ago and they'll tell you that'll take care of it....but little did you know that the policy grew to $10,000.

Make the claim on the policy on your own and write them a check.

The policy owner has to contact the insurance company, and they will send out the change of beneficiary form.

But I have no idea why you'd want to do this . . .

it actually depends on what company you have. i am a life insurance agent and when a client dies all they have to do is call an agent to submit a claim. we go out to the funneral home of the families choice and the check is written to the funneral home. the funneral home uses what they need then writes another check to the family for the remainder. but be careful because funneral homes will try to rip you off and sell you very expensive things because they know you have a big insurance policy. call your agent or the company to see how they pay cliams.
