Why Do I need Life Cover?

Because even death costs money - burial/cremation costs, funeral management, etc.

If you're your family's breadwinner, or if your income makes up for a part of your family's income, then your death may put them in financial difficulties should you not have life cover.

Banks and building societies also insist on some sort of life cover to cover the cost of your mortgage in the event of your death - you really don't want to die and leave your family homeless.

If you are a parent with young children and/or a partner you may want to make sure they are financially secure in the event of your death.

If you are single with no commitments you have no need for life cover unless you have a loan when a bank or mortgage provider or credit card company may insist on life cover as part of the loan.

You don't unless you have dependents.

You dont, it all depends on your circumstances, i.e. you dont want to leave your partner or kids to struggle financial after you are gone.

Will you leave any debts behind? Now or in the future?

Do you want to leave a legacy?

Do you have someone who depends on your ability to fog a mirror?

Do you have a pension that will pay out $X for you only but something less if you choose to cover both you and your spouse?

Have you saved enough to pay for 5 years (or more) of nursing home care? (It can happen).

If you answered yes to any of the above, you need life insurance. How much and what type is another question.

Go talk to a financial professional.

Good Luck

1. To pay for funeral expenses
2. To support persons who are currently depending on your income for financial support

If you have enough saved to cover funeral expenses and either
a) you have no children,
b) your children are adults, or
c) you are retired

then you usually do not need life insurance.

Depends what your plans are and what your commitments are. Straightforward life cover will at least make sure your remains will be disposed of with some reverence (if you care). It will also be cheaper now than later, and can guarantee repayment of a loan, thus improving your credit rating.

An endowment policy is a good long-term savings vehicle and could result in you being able to pay off a mortgage early.

Perhaps most important is to save for a pension. It may be a long way off, but you don't want to be an old pauper. Can you rely on the state for your old age?
