Depends on how much you love your family.
If you wish they were to have the same level of life they do now, maybe even have the house or some of the bills taken care of, and the additional $10k - $15k for your funeral. Get life insurance.
If you want them to sell half of what they own and live off limited government hand outs and curse your name. Don't.
It's a rude way of putting it, but it is true. Life Insurance is not for you, it is for those you leave behind. If they can't survive without your income, you NEED life insurance or they will have to sell the cars and the house to maybe break even. |

In case you die it helps ensure that your family can be more financially secure..I think everyone with children or a dependent spouse should have it...just in case. Even though money isnt going to replace you and all that you do for your family, it does ease some stress that goes along with raising kids and paying for funeral expenses. Good luck! |

If you die, is your spouse going to be able to earn enough money to continue paying the mortgage, pay all the household bills, pay for day care for the children, and pay for your funeral?
If not ... that's why you need life insurance.

Life insurance is not for YOU. It is for the people you leave behind. Most people (women in particular with children) are left basically penniless after their husbands die as the man usually makes most of the money. |

It is so people left behind can pay the bills and funeral expenses.
Take a cheap term policy with level payments for 20 or 30 years. Since, your probly young, it will not cost very much.
Take the policy where your car insurance is at and get a discount on both. Try your auto insurance company first. |

Because you're married and have 2 young children....IS the answer to that question.
Do you love them and want to make sure they're financially taken care of when you're gone? Obviously if you're not alive (and I'm assuming you're working and bringing in income now) your income won't continue to come in.
Churches don't have bake sales for the well insured...talk to an insurance broker and get some advice before it's too late.

Are you a home owner? Do you want to send your kids to college?
Imagine worst case scenario, where you die and leave your wife and kids with a mortgage and no money for college.
This is where your life insurance is going to save them to pay off your mortgage and pay for college.
Make sure its atleast in the amount of your remaining mortgage. |

Why buy? Here are a few reasons...
Funeral costs (these things aren't cheap these days!)
Final expenses (IE: lawyers fees, admin fees, etc)
Final taxes (you need to pay your income taxes right up to the day you die...where's the money goign to come from if you're gone)
Paying out debts (Do you want your spouse to get stuck with the mortgage and debts with far less income...assuming you are the major breadwinner?)
To fund a buy/sell agreement for a business you own. If you own a business and you die, would you want it to stay in the family or would you want to force your family to sell it off to keep up with the bills?
Making sure the kids are taken care of (Who's going to pay for thier college if your spouse is left to raise them as a single parent? Who's going to cover the costs of child care now that you aren't there and your spouse has to work full time?)
Giving your spouse some time to greive (Some people want to leave enough cash to allow their spouse to take 3-6 months off from working without worrying about the financial side of things)
Charitable donations or legacy funds (Some people like to start a scholarship fund or something in their name or donate to a non-profit organization [maybe rebuild a local baseball diamond and have it named after you] or donate some money to a charity that's close to you)
Finally, it's cheaper when you are younger. If you don't have any of the needs above right now, you might or definately will at some point in the future (IE: funeral costs, etc). If you know you're going to need it down the road why not buy it at a cheaper rate?
From my past experience, a person with 2 young children will leave behind up to $500,000 of financial difficulties (paying for kids education and child care, debts, taxes, funeral expenses, etc) without even factoring in charitable giving. Unless you've got half a mill sitting around in a bank account, life insurance would be a good option to protect your family. |
