It's HOUSEHOLD income that matters.

He could marry you, then you'd be able to go on his insurance.

Or he can flat out pay your costs. After all, it's HIS baby. REAL men take care of their babies. But they also marry their babies mothers.

While he makes the money that can pay for his child, it's just not fair to ask ME to pay for his child. That's what medicaid is - the taxpayer paying the bill.

The reason is because they have a right to go off the father's income. If you are living alone, they will go off your income. But your income and your baby's father's income are too much for you to qualify.

It doesn't matter who you live with (even your parents). Unless you prove to them that you only reside there and pay rent, buy your own things, and do not get anything from him, you won't qualify.

medicaid bases their verification on the household. Sorry, them's the rules. Marital relationship doesn't matter in such cases. It would be the same thing if, for example, you had a child of yours living with you who drew SSI. These rules are put in place for one reason only. To keep people from abusing the system and driving the program costs up so high that they have to end it, thus hurting everyone. if you are not living with the father, your situation would be different. But, don't try to pull anything because they are getting very determined in verifying income. Maybe he should get his own place, or have him work a second job in order to bridge the income gap here.

Oh dear, you're in quite a bind with this. :(

SO many people are trapped in this type of "catch 22" situation and....frankly.....you may have to go around the red tape a bit to get somewhere with the lovely people at your local CFS department.

Here's something you can try (although since you've already
tried applying the first way, they may deny you on this).

Don't claim that you simply live with the and your funds get pooled together to pay bills.

Have your father write a rental agreement up stating that you pay him $X.XX per month to live with him. Have him combine an estimate of utilities if you were to pay a portion of them and add that into the total cost of rent.

So, for example, he writes a note saying you pay $400 per month to him. This $400 includes phone, electricity and/or gas, water, trash etc. (depending on what types of bills you have). CFS does not consider vehicles, auto insurance, cable television, internet costs, etc as "necessities"

All you can do is include the main bills to survive. I know that seems pretty DUH, but that's juuust in case. :)

There's several other things you'd have to consider though and other information that I don't know about you or your particular situation that could make or break your chances of being accepted.

Like do you and him share the same bank account? If so? There's no way you can be accepted because they see that you DO have pooled funds and pay things together from 1 account.

If you don't share bank accounts, is there a way you can pay him a check each month for that same amount so that there is proof that you are paying him rent.
------ EDIT-----
I submitted this while I was finishing a phone call and read through the other replies.

I actually did read your question wrong the first time and thought you were saying you live with YOUR dad, not the baby's.

An above response is correct with respect to your situation. It goes by household income unless you want your b/f to charge you rent and even then, the idea of that is touchy. However, the gal who responded with the fact that it goes by household and that her taxpayer money goes towards it did not give you any type of resources, so basically you just got told off but not helped.

Here's an option that is more appropriate for your circumstance to maybe help with your question.

If you live in a big city (or near one) there's usually a University Hospital of some type nearby and/or locally.

University Hospitals generally have their own in-house insurance for people who are uninsured and low income.
I have lived in 4 different states. Colorado, Florida, California and Missouri. All 4 states have University Hospitals in major cities where they have Indigent programs to help low income people and their families.

You should call the nearest University Hospital and talk with someone in the Admissions Department. Let them know that you are low income and pregnant. Tell them that you have no insurance and ask if they cover the particular area you live in. If not, sometimes they can give you names of other places or Universities that cover the area you live.

You will need a copy of your Drivers License, Social Security Card, (in some cases they will take birth certificates), ALL utility bills, rent or mortgage payments and sometimes they also take bills you've accrued in the past 6 mos to a year of prescriptions you've had to fill.

They will then place you in a bracket based on your income IF you qualify. You will then have a deductable total which......for example.......could be $500. If you reach that deductable in under 1 year, your medical care is free past that point.

You would pay a co-pay each time you see a doctor based on your income. It could be anywhere from $3 to $20 each time you visit the doctor or E.R. Surgery or hospital stay expenses are sometimes around $50 but it depends on how they run their particular program. You will also play a flat amount for your prescriptions and get them from within the hospital's pharmacy. You could pay .50 cents to $30 for generic and $3 to $50 for brand name medications.

With all of the co-pays for doctor's visits, surgeries/hospital stays and prescriptions those co-pays add up, which is where the deductible comes into play. So, as mentioned before, once you reach a total deductible amount within a year, your care is free beyond that point until you renew insurance with them again. They renew your files and have you re-apply yearly.

Beyond getting Medicaid or University Hospitals, I'm not aware of any other health care assistance.

If you don't qualify for any of these, the baby's father really needs to step it up to get a full time job and you need to seriously consider marriage to get the insurance coverage that you, your baby and the father desperately need and deserve.

Good luck to you. I hope that all works out well.

Yeah that's a bummer , they are going off his income because you live there. It's your primary residence.

You can get AmeriPlan USA health coverage.. and they have a hospital advocacy program that works with the hospital to lower your bills by over 50%! It's the best option if you can't get state aid. No one else will take you with a pre-exisiting condition.
You can take out a plan.. try it for 30 days and if you like it.. continue with it.. and then after you have the baby you can drop it if you like..
Check it out at the web., call me with your questions and i'll walk you through it..
and you can try to appeal the medicaid.. and they will backpay bills usually 3-4 months! (they did it for me!)
my phone number is under the contact section!
8-8 central time!
Thanks and I wish you well!

That doesn't make sense. I know in my state if you don't have insurance, you are automatically eligible for Medicaid. I would ask for an appeal!!

This is totally disturbing! This is the perfect example as to why our Country is going down the drain! First of all if you can't afford a child or the Father is a total loser then there are steps that you can take to not have a baby! It is not my place or the other hard working taxpayers of this Country to support you and your Family! Yes, a child is precious and a gift from God, but step up to the plate and be responsible adults here! Why would you even continue to stay with the bum! If he cared anything about you and that baby he would marry you and work to give both of you a decent life! I am not trying to be hard here but, I know people that are doing the same thing and it is wrong! There are no rewards for the working people, just punishment by taking more from us and giving to the people that choose not to work! The benefits of being on welfare are so great that why in the world would any of them want to work! The heck with pride it is a free ride! More free food than you can ever eat, free health care, free dental, you can get free housing! Where are the incentives to be somebody! When we as a Country get to the point to where we no longer have the money to support the millions that depend on it, how will they survive? All you hear is finding ways to cut Medicare! Well, you are talking about the elderly there, people that have worked thru-out their lives and paid it in. You never hear anything about cuts to welfare or any of those programs! I am tired of seeing people buy brand name products, steaks and not to mention all of the junk food that is not a necessity, while I shop for no name brands to make ends meet, or see them driving their new vehicles, talk on their internet phones, get their nails done, need I say more! I can't do all of these things and my tax dollars shouldn't allow you to either! I wish you the best with the baby, but, tell him to get off of his lazy butt and be a man! He didn't have a problem being a man when you got pregnant, now is the time to prove that he is a man!
