Why do doctors treat you badly if you don't have health insurance?
i went to a dermatologist and she didn't seem to care about the problem i had. she didn't even prescribe me medicine for it. she let the nurse do everything and i was charged a lot of money. she acted as if she didn't have time for me but she spent time on other patients. could it be b/c i don't have health insurance and she thinks i can't afford to pay for medicine?

I don't think that the lack of insurance is the problem, In fact it is to the doctors advantage that you do not have insurance. Most doctors charge a patient more money who don't have insurance than they receive for those who do have insurance.

I think that you just ran into a bad doctor, the doctor having a bad day, or a doctor who was jsut so busy that she had her nerses do most of the work.

Next time choose another doctor.

Yes. Would you be happy to do something that took you over ten years of expensive schooling to achieve, for free?

Probably not. If you went to a dermatologist for something minor - like poison ivy - that could have been treated by a general practitioner, and didn't require special expertise - that's probably the cause.

Most specialists are snobby and don't like to be bothered with "routine" stuff that general practitoners can easily handle. They want the hard or challenging cases.

If you have health insurance they will milk it. If you don't they get paranoid. You will still be sick even if they treat you.

mbrcatz
Probably not. Most doctors don't even know if you ahve insurance or not - they let their office managers worry about the business end of things.

Mut have been something else.

The doctor is afraid that you can't afford to pay for the service. It's like giving you free service.

With insurance their money is guaranteed, with out it they get their money when you feel like it. Which is understandable its like car insurance.

That's the way most doctors are. It doesn't sound like you were getting special treatment because you don't have health insurance.

My doctor at least pretends to care when he's in the same room with me.
