Hi there,
I had a part time direct sales job while at the university - and though I was not selling insurance, my experience will help you understand why insurance agents insist on paying a trip to the bathroom
We were taught, in the sales training, that the best way to analyze a person on the first visit is through observing them - and one way was to observe what kind of life they live. Believe it or not, one can learn a lot from someone's bathroom.
1. The bathroom design will let the sales agent understand your style - classy, careless, careful
2. The medicines you store in your bathroom closet can help the agent gage your health levels - things we keep in our closet include paracetamols (migraines?), antihistamin (allergies?), insulin (diabetese?). It gives them a rough picture of who you are and what they can try and sell to you
Hope this info helps! |

Because the last people they visited gave them too much coffee! Salespeople live on coffee. My uncle who sold cars said at the end of the day he had poured (not finished all) about 40 cups as each time he sat down with a client they each had coffee! You can imagine the health issues but mostly you just have to pee when you get out of the car! LOL! |

Well, I wouldn't let them in your house at all it's not safe, because even if you needed to buy insurance you would want someone reparable, there are too many scams out there. But if I had to guess they are on the road so often that they don't stop to use the bathroom until they find a sucker to allow them. |

There is a psychological construct that proports that if you can get someone to do you a favor, they actually will be more willing to do you favors in the future. Call it investment (I can't remember the actual concept name). So if you notice them doing this, they may be secretly trying to get that small favor in hopes that it will lead to larger ones (i.e. you buying their insurance). Be polite and remember that they are trying to get your money, so only sign if you feel the deal is good. |

Honestly I think they do it so they can stay in your house longer....
maybe look through ur medicine cabinet to see what you have in there so they can maybe have something in common with you...LOL
No really though I think it is to stay in your house longer so you dont just kick them out after 2 min. |

It's not. One reason is to give you and your spouse a moment to settle in to the idea of having an insurance salesman(person) in the house. Another reason is for the sales person to come across as being comfortable at your house thus making you feel more at ease.... I know this because I'm an insurance agent. |

Think about it, your in a car, driving maybe a far distance to someone's house and by the time you get there, maybe you need to use the bathroom? Same thing with these people. My father is an insurance salesman and trust me he doesnt need to see someone's bathroom. He's there to help them get a better deal on insurance and make sure they are 100% covered. |

First of all, if you do not need insurance, why do you ask them in? If you do, understand they are out in the field all day going door to door, and don't allow much time for eating or bathroom.
Second, how can they sell you 401K, when that comes from your job? |

I was told they like to have a nose around and can tell from what a person has in their bathroom and how tidy it is what type of person they are.. |

If you think about it. They are salespeople. People that want to listen always offer... Can I get you something to drink? If you want them to listen, you would say sure, water would be great thanks. And they do this at every house. Wouldn't you have to use the restroom. Or they could just be stalling. |

So, you don't understand why someone would want to use the bathroom? |

You are right - there is some kind of stupid game. I personally wouldn't know because these guys fly out of my house before they even have a chance to walk through the door. I wouldn't let them on the bus leaving alone my bathroom. |

Sales people are trained to ask to use the bathroom or for a drink of water as means to have a reason to get inside, or stay longer. The best thing is, don't answer the door to anyone you don't know. Put up a no soliciting sign, and if you do answer and they ask say 'sorry, but I don't think so, I don't have time to talk right now!" and shut the door. It's thier own fault they chose that line of work anyway! They are used to it, and I've learned from these freakin magazine sales people that have been hitting us up, they ask the same things to my neighbors door to door, so it's not like they really need to use your bathroom, or another drink! |

They are probably going to several houses and just need a pit stop. If they also sell house insurance, they could get an idea of the value of your house by seeing the bathroom. On the other hand, they might want to see how clean and neat you are. There might be some kind of research that says people who have clean homes (they work harder - they are active) live longer. That would equate to less immediate risk for life or health insurance. Also, if you have a nice house (bathroom) you can afford the higher premiums on insurance. All these ideas are mine - just speculation. Then again, they might just have to go to the bathroom! |

So they can p1ss on your toothbrush if you don't buy the insurance. |

ASAP? that's weird.
maybe they dont use it before they leave or you have a very nice bathroom? |

We're taught to ask a series of questions that you will answer "yes" to so that we build up momentum our final closing question. Can I use the bathroom is an easy first question.
I'm kidding. Maybe you live in the sticks, and after a long drive, they need to tinkle. Maybe you should go see them next time... and ask to use their bathroom.
If they are sneaking in your medicine cabinet, kick them out immediately. An honest agent will be able to get an honest answer from you without looking at the pills. |

i don't know... that is bizarre... maybe they have conventions and everyone talks about whose bathroom is best, and now everybody wants to see yours.... or maybe they are hiding stuff in your bathroom, and the next person that comes, retrieves it...
i really don't know.. but it is odd..... |

Longer their visit the more they hope you think of them as friends so therefore you will buy from them. NO one uses our bath room except family.

For the sole purpose of looking in your medicine cabinet to see if you are on any daily prescriptions and what those scripts are for, so they can try to tailor an insurance policy to meet your needs.
It's very sneaky and unethical but it is a practice that a lot of pushy sales men use.
Best advise is to never let an insurance salesman into your home, and if you do let one in don't let him use your bathroom. |

They do not make a lot of money so they usually steal a roll of TP for thier families. |

Cause that's when they steal your prescription drugs. ; ) |

i bet they are looking around your home. |

Justin Time

Because they want to look in your medicine cabinet to determine what type of pre-existing conditions you have so they can jack up the cost of your policy. |

Its really because they want to freshen up, use your toothpaste, tooth picks, ear buds etc. Maybe have a shower, bath and have a snooze in your bed, try on your underwear, play hide and seek in your wardrobe....who really cares! |
