Why do people get insurance on one body part why not the whole shabang?
my mom said some athlete has insurance on her legs but nothing else

Well, it's not common to write a policy for this, but it DOES happen. Not so much for athletes, but models, etc. And it's a specialty line, individually underwritten.

See, if Donna Hand Model breaks a finger and it heals wrong, she's lost all her future income as a hand model, so now there's a real loss. But you can't buy a policy like that without 1. proving you've got income directly related to that body part and 2. paying through the nose for it.

when often they do get insurance for the whole body in the form of life insurance- the bodily coverage for ex- Tina Turners legs is an additional premium set for her greatest asset.

That is for celebrities, not normal people.

because thats her money maker...her elbows and eyebrows are of no "money" value but her legs only are. thats why.

Well, that's not quite correct. All of these rich people who insure one body part also have regular health insurance, which would cover medical attention if any body part was injured.

The insurance you're talking about is an additional (usually large) monetary payout *beyond* what is required for medical attention. An athlete could insure her legs for a $5 million payout because her career would be over if she lost the use of them, so at least she'd have some money to fall back on.

But this kind of insurance is high-priced (understandably so), so these celebrities and sports figures are unlikely to insure all of their bodies piece by piece when some parts aren't as vital to their careers. For example, if a track star's hair falls out, he can still have a career.
