Why do the elderly and venerable need insurance if they are going to die anyways?

Your inquiry is proof that there is such a thing as a

DUMB QUESTION

Little Big Boss
Why do you need a pain reliever when you are dying slowly of cancer is more like what you are proposing.
What a gutless, non-sympathetic notion!
How dare you ask such an unfeeling question!

first lady
They still need to be able to settle debts when they die.

Jonathan S. Carroll, ASLI
People get insurance to protect assets. Elderly people need medical insurance to pay for their health care costs. If their money is consumed by bills prior to death, they won't be able to buy food.

They need life insurance to satisfy debts in case they die, so their heirs do not get burdened with their debts, only their savings. They may also get life insurance to help their spouse out with extra cash to pay for burial expenses etc.

Also, if they have a mortgage, or a car, these types of insurance are required by the bank or the state so they need that regardless of age.

hil says hi!
Because they are still people!

Katie
um because even people who are going to die don't want to rack up bills for people they are leaving behind....someone who dies in the hospital after a month doesn't just get their slate wiped clean of those charges--their family ends up having to pay for it.

And aren't we all just going to die anyways? If you think that's logic--why do any of us have it?

firestar.1981@ymail.com
Yeah, I think that also, but if you think that way, then you can and should die without health insurance and support. Many people work hard all thier lives, and they want to live and die comfortably. You just have to see it from their point of view.

The elderly and vUlnerable... What type of insurance are you talking about? Health insurance? They are usually sicker due to being older with more health issues. Life Insurance? They need to make sure their spouse is going to be taken care of correct?
