☆♥Hello Kitty Obsessed!♥☆ | Why do vets ask for vets fees paying in full? even for emergancies?..whats the point in getting insurance? |
When a pet gets ill not everyone has the money to pay for a vet...myself included.
I thought with pet insurance they pay the vet and i just have to pay the excess which is £50
But all the vets here ask for the money paying all at once and keep recepts for insurance.
If I could afford to pay it straight away i wouldn't need insurance would I?
are all vets like this??? UK ONLY! |

yeah ridiculous - why don't the insurance companies pay for the fees - as they would for car insurance? However, if you claim for items broken or stolen on the house insurance, you have to fork out and then submit receipts to claim back the money. I suppose that's just the way it works. if the vets were working along side a particular insurance company it would work out, but they are independant of them, and so need to be paid rather than having to deal with all the claiming themselves. they need paying up front, and they have nothing to do with how that is paid.
I would suggest that along side your monthly insurance you pay for your pet, put another £5 to £10 aside in a BS account just so that it's there next time you need it. |

I think the reason is because the vet wants their money, they give you a bill and then you clain on the insurance, if the vet waited for the insurance and it was either late or didn't turn up at all then they would be out of pocket. The insurance is there to reimburse your costs not pay for them up front. |

Yes, all vets are like that, because they want to get paid for their services. They have overhead, and cost of supplies.
Do you want to work for someone, on the promise from that someone that a third party is going to pay you? Some day? Maybe? If they feel like it, if they don't go out of business? Pet insurance is like that. There's no regulation. The policy is only as good as the company that writes it. There are lots of exclusions and limitations. |

Yep. All vets do it.
My theory is that's why The Almighty created Visa and Master Card. Have not met a vet yet that does not take either. Of course, paying that bill off is a completely different matter.
Many vets in my area also take Care Credit. It's basically another type of credit card. www.carecredit.com
In some areas, some folks have set up charities to help people in their local area who did not qualify for Care Credit. One I know of in Raleigh, NC is Ashley's Angel Fund. http://www.ashleyfund.org/ |

Hi that what I thought at first, but when I read into it I found out you have to pay the full amount up front and then claim it back, I cancelled my insurance as I was in the same boat as I was when I got I had the same insurance and I probably wasnt covered for most things so I was actually wasting my money.
Its best just to save up for emergencys in my opinion, and yep most vets are like this, and insurance companys like getting your money/ |

Wrong,
The insurance will reimburse your bills.
The vet has had too many people doing runners and not paying, or the insurance not paying,
I wouldn't trust pet owners either, it only takes a few people to say "the insurance will pay you" or give you a cancelled insurance certificate, etc.. before you ask for cash up front (or give you a bill to pay) |
